The S3 Graphic Communication course introduces learners to the diverse and ever increasing variety of presentation methods employed in Graphic Communication. They allow the opportunity for learners to gain skills in reading, interpreting and creating graphics as well as initiating, developing and communicating their ideas graphically. The course is practical, exploratory and experiential in nature and combine elements of creativity and communicating for visual impact with elements of design protocol and standards.
The aims of the Course are to enable learners to:
· develop skills in graphic communication techniques, including the use of equipment, materials and software
· extend and apply knowledge and understanding of graphic communication standards, protocols and conventions, where these apply
· develop an understanding of the impact of graphic communication technologies on our environment and society.

This unit introduces pupils orthographic drawing by using the drawing boards. Pupils will develop their skills and learn about Elevations, Plans and Sections.
This unit further develops the pupils skills using the 3D modelling package Inventor. At the end of the skill builders the pupils will be asked to design and model a childs toy.
This unit introduced the pupils to 2½ D drawing. The pupils will work through a series of drawings on the drawing boards to build up their drawing skills.
Colour is used all around us to highlight, attract and enhance products and features. Through this unit pupils learn about the feelings associated with colours and explore properties such as advancing and receeding colours, harmony and contrast.
This unit show pupils various ways to display data and statistics. Pupils will explore what type of graph is better to show specific data sets before designing and making their own graph both manually and electronically.
Assessment will take place throughout each project as well as at the end of each topic.
