Practical Woodwork is an S3 Course focusing on developing woodworking skills. The pupils learn in more depth about bench work, machinery and finishing. The course provides pupils with the skills, knowledge and understanding required to progress into National 5 Practical Woodwork.

Students woodworking skills are put to the test with this through housing joint kitchen roll holder. They are challenge to be accurate with their marking out and their execution of the cutting and shaping of the joints to create a neat final project that they can sell for profit.
Students encounter Mortice and Tenon joints for the first time creating this simple yet engaging table. Students get the opportunity to personalise their table top with a laser engraving design that can be used to create a unique selling point.
The designer clock has more opportunity for personalisation and choice as students are free to design the clock face however they wish. They have access to clock mechanisms and stick on numbers, they can laser cut engravings onto the face and they can paint it to make their clock look unique.
The Deck Chair project offers students something totally different. Combining all the skills they have learnt previously to create this simple yet highly functional chair.
Students are faced with their toughest challenge to date with this intricate nest of tables. Students drawing reading and interpretation skills and accuracy of measuring and marking out is put to the test in this end of year project.
Assessment will take place throughout each project as well as at the end of each topic.
