Here at Millburn Academy CDT our dedicated team have developed a level 5 National Progression Award which is available to S5-6 students that have previously passed N5 Practical woodwork to continue developing student skills and competence whilst focusing on components from industry, creating a strong DYW pathway for students within CDT. This course is designed to challenge students in new ways, introducing new aspects such as veneering and polishing. Students will build on skills previously learnt in N5 Woodworking learning new types of woodworking joints and the basics of traditional furniture manufacture.
Furniture at SCQF level 5 develops basic skills in furniture design and manufacture. It focuses on practical activities such as timber frame construction, carcase making, veneering, polishing and machine woodworking, carried out in a realistic work environment.
A large scale project testing students knowledge and skill in carcass construction. This bedside cabinet is a large example of carpentry and craftsmanship.
An Introduction to the art of Veneering, this clock project test pupils woodworking skills and accuracy as well as introducing them to Veneering.
