Overview of the Unit

In this unit students will learn why people were drawn to the United States in search of better opportunities for their families. Students will learn about Ellis Island, the living conditions in the city and the discrimination they faced while trying to create a better life.

Essential Question

  • Why did the poor and unfortunate want to risk it all to come to the United States?
