What Is Screen Printing?
Screen printing is a printing method that involves the use of a mesh screen to transfer ink onto a surface. The screen, which is stretched over a frame, is coated with a stencil that prevents the ink from passing through except in areas where the design is meant to be printed. The process typically begins by creating an artwork, which is then divided into different colours. Each colour is printed separately using a different screen. Ink is applied to the screen and then pushed through the mesh and onto the surface by a squeegee. This printing method is widely used for printing on various materials such as fabric, paper, and plastic, especially for printing designs on t-shirts, posters, and other promotional items. Overall, screen printing is a versatile and cost-effective method that produces high-quality and long-lasting results.
For my piece, I plan to go back to my second brief. I'll print out the Indigo logo, cut a stencil out and make a purple-coloured paint to use it with. However, instead of the logo just being one colour, I plan to incorporate 3 different shades of the colour purple.Â
Unfortunately, this brief did not go to plan as I ran out of time. I initially planned to make 3 layers but I didn't have enough paint to work with. However, I learned how to screen print. If I were to do this again, I would plan this more effectively and even attempt to produce a more intricate design.
