For this project, I chose the theme of commercial design. I chose this theme because I believe that there is a lot of versatility. I concentrated on clothing brands and design as I had many ideas on how to portray my ideas this way. I managed to cover numerous techniques and formats of graphic design throughout this course. Both digital and physical. I began studying and researching artists and influences that fit and inspire my work. One of the most prominent being 'Nocta'. A clothing brand that has a heavy influence on my work. Much of my work is grungy and inspired by the use of film. This is a consistent theme throughout my work.
My first piece of work is a photo shoot that follows a heavy film style. The collection of photographs are grungy. This is followed by my concept brand (heavily inspired by the aesthetic of 'Nocta') 'Indigo'. This brand will be a common foundation in my work and final pieces and will perform as a sub-brand for my primary client, Nike. In the next couple of briefs, I began to work with digital illustration. I produced posters and rebrandings of existing logos. I then moved on to videography skills and editing. I first made some GIFs which involved my concept brand, Indigo. I then went and created a video for my secondary client, 'Twentyfours'. The video consisted of many editing techniques. I then moved on to Typography. With this, I demonstrated some abstract skills. I was told not to use any images in this brief. I managed to create two posters for Nike which teased a new footwear collection. Moving onto some physical work, I printed the Indigo logo by screenprinting. I found this as the weakest set of work in this project due to poor quality. Overall, I believe that these pieces of work came out well as a whole.
For my first final piece, I decided to create a collection of mockup garments, similar to my second piece of work, but with different clothing items. I created a jacket, jersey and hoodies. I also created an alternate logo specifically for this final piece. I believe that this piece went very well. For my second final piece, I decided to create a magazine containing my work throughout this project. I featured my mockup clothing designs, photography work and my essay in the magazine. Lastly, I created a promotional video for my secondary client, 'Twentyfours'. This was a video that featured old handycam footage. The brand did, in fact, use this video and posted it on their social media page. I was most proud of this piece as it got used for its intention.
Overall, I think my project is quite strong. However, If i were to do this again, I would allocate more time to work on my projects and make them in their best possible form.
