3Beech   Learning Update

Central idea: Places can change as a result of human impact and organisations.

It has been a very exciting start to our inquiry, as we have have discovered what invasion is and how it can change a place.  To help us understand this, we have researched the Battle of Hastings and we have almost finished writing our own biographies of King William I (William the Conqueror).  We have really enjoyed exploring the Bayeux Tapestry to help us understand how we find evidence in historical sources.  We have also studied the artist Cas Holmes, spending a delightful time exploring our environment by creating rubbings and sketches.  We are in the process of planning a class montaged textile work which reflects who we are in our school environment with influences from the Bayeux Tapestry!

In maths, we have come to the end of our unit on measuring volume and capacity, but please continue to use weights and measures at home to maintain our new skill of reading and interpreting simple unnumbered scales. We have needed to ensure we can confidently count in steps of 50, 100, 200, 250 and 500.

We have begun learning about light in science; starting by understanding what a source of light is and what darkness means.  We have also investigated how light reflects  by bouncing off shiny, smooth surfaces.  Our discussions have really helped us to overcome some of our initial misconceptions.
