4Acacia   Learning Update

Central idea: The legacies of ancient civilisations may be influenced by modern Britain

This week has been a very busy week for our inquiry. We have been comparing how the Romans and the Greeks have done so much for our country, from our architecture to the roads we drive on. All this will start bringing our inquiry to an end in the next couple of weeks where the children will then be producing a piece of work showing how ancient civilisations have shaped the Britain we live in today. On Thursday the children really enjoyed our lesson on democracy, where we learnt about the Greek alphabet and had the opportunity to ostracize people like they did back in ancient Greece.

In maths, we have continued to look at fractions and have been using all our mathematical knowledge to convert fractions to mixed numbers or to improper fractions, to adding and subtracting fractions which we have been looking at this week. In reading we are continuing with our text 'Who Let the Gods Out' and the children are enjoying all the stories of the gods and what Elliot will do next. Last week we wrote out myths that we have been writing for the last couple of weeks and for World Book Day the children got the opportunity to publish their myth and also create a front cover, which they all enjoyed doing.

Reminder- Our Roman day workshop is next Thursday and the children are able to come to school in their Roman outfits. We are all looking forward to this as it will be a great opportunity for the children to see what life was like for Romans.
