3Beech   Learning Update

Central idea: Evidence of past civilizations can be used to make connections to present day societies.

In our inquiry learning, we have begun to delve into the ancient Egyptian civilization.  We have enjoyed exploring the artwork and techniques of Egyptian artist Hossam Dirar, helping us to understand the connection between past and present Egyptian cultures - we are looking forward to creating our own ancient Egyptian style self portraits!

Reverend Nicky very kindly joined us on Wednesday so that we could ask her our planned questions about how she expresses her Christian faith.  The children's questions were varied and probing; we were fascinated with the items Nicky brought with her to deepen children's understanding.

During our outdoor learning last week, the children fired their clay pots and tested to see how water tight they were.  Mr Townsend also made an underground stove to recreate the process of melting copper - we all had a turn at using the bellows to stoke the fire.

In maths, we have been getting to grips with fractions: understanding the role of the numerator and the denominator; representing fractions on a number line; making the whole and finding equivalent fractions.  Please take the opportunity at home to discuss equal parts when you are cutting pizza or sharing chunks of chocolate!
