Central idea: People have a responsibility to understand how to look after living things.
Over the past fortnight we have been focussing in on learning about our responsibility to look after plants in our local environment, and the impact this will have on our environment. The children have come up with a wonderful idea to make a bug hotel on our school field to try and increase our insect population, hopefully leading to more plants being pollinated, creating more shelter and food for animals that might visit our school field! We have planned our bug hotel and collected various resources to make it. We have also enjoyed our school trip to Tyland Barn in Maidstone. The children loved learning more about plants and exploring the wonderful gardens at Tyland Barn, seeing many flowers that we had never seen before. We also had the opportunity to make fires safely using flints, which the children enjoyed and showed wonderful perseverance in doing this.
In maths, we have been learning about time, which although a tricky concept to grasp, the children have worked very hard to understand and show their learning! They have also enjoyed singing days of the week songs and learning about the months of the year.
Our writing learning has centred around narrative and letter writing. The children have written wonderful stories about planting their own magical seed! We have also written a letter to Mrs Penning trying to persuade her to let us build our bug hotel.
The children have all worked so hard this year, and we are all so proud of every child for their tireless efforts to challenge themselves in their learning!
