1Spruce    Learning Update

Central idea: The weather can affect how people live.

Spruce class have had an excellent start to Module 3. We have started our inquiry into how the weather impacts the way people live by exploring the different types of weather that we experience in the UK. To do this we have kept weather charts and spent time outdoors considering what we can see in nature and feel outside in the cold. We decided to create windsocks to measure the force and direction of the wind. The children loved being outside and seeing their windsock move with the wind. We have looked at how the weather varies around the world and from continent to continent, with the children annotating maps with their new learning.

In writing, we have started looking at our core text 'The Snail and the Whale' and focussing on writing short narratives using adjectives and conjunctions. We have also used this text to look at different climate zones around the world.

In maths we have been learning about place value between 1 and 20, looking at the teen numbers and finding out about exchange with ones and tens.

We have also been fortunate enough to have an excellent music workshop in which the children got involved and had a great time learning about rock music!

PE days will continue to be on a Monday and we will have another PE session throughout the week so if children can have their PE kit in school all week this would be very helpful.
