Central idea: Places can change as a result of human impact and organisations.
Last week, as part of our inquiry, we walked around the village to explore the different types of housing, open spaces and amenities. This was a great preparation for our map drawing this week, whereby children have really had to focus on locating key features of Marden to accurately represent roads and built-up areas. We have been exploring textiles this term, with a focus on the artist Cas Holmes, who uses inspiration from her environment in her embroidery. We have used our sketches and texture rubbings of the school environment to help inspire our collaged sewing panels. They are still a work in progress, but we have had a great deal of fun making them!
In maths this week, we have begun learning about pounds and pence; recognising the different coins, notes and their values. Please help your child by giving them money at home to count, sort and explore. It is an excellent way to help them count in 2s, 5s, 10s, 20s and 50s. Set out some random coins, can they tell you how much there is in pounds and pence?
We have had enormous fun with our class text 'Greta and the Giants' over the last two weeks. Children have written character and setting descriptions, diary entries, a letter and a speech. Their vocabulary choices have been so adventurous and we have loved sharing our passion for the forests.
