3Beech   Learning Update

Central idea: Evidence of past civilizations can be used to make connections to present day society.

Olivia-Rose has used her imagination to the full when writing the main event of her story today.  Her use of sentence openers, prepositions and detail for the reader is delightful.  See if you can spot the part where she plays the invisible violin!

Who could have known that civilizations could be so much fun!  During our first line of inquiry, we have researched and defined what a civilisation is and its key characteristics, beginning with the most early form of prehistoric civilizations: the Stone Age and the Iron Age.  Children have thoroughly enjoyed creating their own zigzag books about civilizations so that we can teach another class all of our knowledge.

We had our first week of outdoor learning last week, where Mr Townsend taught us all about our boundaries, places of interest, places to protect and how to keep safe.  We also learnt about flint knapping that would have been a method to make tools and weapons in the Stone Age.

This week, we have been writing a historical narrative inspired by 'Stone Age Boy'.  The children are fully immersed in their story and we are excited to write the final part today where we face a giant cave bear. How will we get home?  Perhaps it was all a dream... Or was it?
