1Spruce    Learning Update

Central idea: Learning about history can help us understand the present.

Spruce class have had an excellent start to module 4! We have delved into learning about history and have plotted significant events in our lives on a timeline. We have also explored our family history and have made excellent family history scrapbooks. The children loved looking at pictures of family members and discussing who is in their family. We would not be able to have done this without your help so thank you very much for sharing these pictures with us!

Through our core text 'Peepo' we have been looking at life in the 1940's and comparing a 1940's home to our own, by spotting old-fashioned items and discussing their uses. We worked in teams to plot lots of old and modern objects on a timeline, a concept that the children have grasped very successfully.

In art, we have started our exploration of the artist Anni Albers, responding to her textile artwork. Many of the children expressed that they loved her use of colour and line.

In maths we have continued our learning about partitioning numbers to 50 and are continuing to build our knowledge of numbers from 0 to 50, including plotting numbers on a numberline.

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel our trip to Maidstone Museum next week, however I would like to thank so many parents for being keen to be helpers! I will keep you posted with other trips we are planning.
