4Chestnut Learning Update

Central idea: Children encounter a range of risks, challenges and opportunities.

Our first line of inquiry is all about the opportunities that children have. We wrote a poem last week called, 'I have the right' full of the rights and opportunities that children should have in the world. This week we have looked at a two artists (Johnson Tsang and Sokari Douglas Camp) to create two pieces of artwork. One was a face made from modroc and the other was a word shadow sculpture. To create the modroc face, the children first drew their face to get the proportions correct and then used tin foil to create the eyes, nose, cheekbones and nose. After this, they covered the face in foil and applied the modroc. Finally, they used the primary colours and yellow and white to recreate their skin tone to apply it to the face. The shadow artwork was also great fun and involved creating a word from cardboard and then holding this up outside to form a shadow.
