1Spruce Learning Update

Central idea: People have a responsibilty to understand how to look after living things (plants).

The children have started their first line of inquiry, looking into different types of plants. We have taken advantage of the hot weather and have been doing lots of learning outside, looking at different types of trees and classifying flowering and non-flowering plants. In Maths, children measured leaves and sticks using cubes and then rulers whilst using mathematical vocabulary such as tallest, shortest and longest. Children have loved reading 'The Tiny Seed' by Eric Carle, which has influenced the imaginative writing on describing a journey of the seed.  In Reading Rainbows, children have been reading 'Tree by Seasons Come, Seasons Go' by Patricia Hegarty developing their understanding on how a tree changes through the seasons.
