3/4Cedar Learning Update

Central idea: Water management can play a role which influences the environment.

We began our inquiry by thinking about the role water plays in our daily lives and then considered the importance of water in the environment. This has been particularly topical, given the recent hot weather!

After watching video footage of polar bears in the Arctic, we considered the impact of ice melting as a result of global warming. The children had a wonderful time competing against each other to see who could stay on their newspaper "ice sheets" the longest. This entailed repeated folding of the paper and the children were very creative in finding ways they could remain on the "ice" the longest.

In Science, we are focusing on habitats in this module. As part of this, we conducted a habitat investigation in the field. We were delighted to look at the natural world in more detail, particularly when one member of the class became an insect habitat for a short period! We then reflected on areas where other animals and plants live, with a focus on marine habitats.
