1Spruce Learning Update

Central idea: Human relationships can create a sense of belonging

This week has been another busy one for the children in Spruce class as we explored the different types of relationships that people can have, including family. As a result, we created our very own family trees and wrote sentences about who our loved ones are. We also used Google Earth to explore Marden from above, identifying key landmarks in our village and producing some fantastic writing about them too!

As part of our inquiry, we also focused our learning heavily around one of our key texts 'The Lonely Beast', analysing the character's feelings throughout the story. We made 'wanted' posters advertising for a friend for the beast, painted landscapes and cityscapes from the book, as well as creating equipment for his very own party. It has been a fun, jam-packed week of learning.

In maths we have been developing our understanding of how we can order objects and numbers, linking this to our learning from previous weeks to include language such as fewest and greatest. We have also begun to explore 'The Colour Monster' in our Reading Rainbows sessions and this is already proving to be a hit with Spruce class!

Reminder: Please ensure that your child is bringing a named jumper/cardigan and coat to school as the weather has certainly turned a lot cooler in the last week or so.
