3/4Cedar Learning Update

Central idea: Balance in our lives can promote health, well-being and contentment.

This week we have been busy learning about our bodies and what they need for optimal health. We have researched the 5 food groups and discovered the important jobs that each food group have. We then went on to look at the digestive system starting with our teeth. From there we went on to learn about the organs that form our digestive system through group activities and our class model of the human body. Our line of inquiry has then taken us on to looking at the human skeleton, its purpose and the bones that form our skeleton.

In maths, we have continued our learning of place values representing numbers accurately with base ten, place value counters and part-part-whole models. We have looked at how to partition numbers accurately into one, tens, hundreds and thousands. We have represented numbers on a number line and found 1, 10, 100 or 1000 more than a given number.

In reading, we have continued to follow the main character Maia on her journey to Brazil. We have just reached the new and exciting country. We have made inferences about how the characters are feeling and predictions about what will happen now that she has arrived in Brazil.
