3/4Cedar Learning Update

Central idea: Balance in our lives can promote health, well-being and contentment.

This week we have been settling into our new class and learning a range of different ways that we use our Chromebooks to support out learning.

Our first line of inquiry has seen our playing a game called 'diet riot' where we had to group animals according to what they eat, using the categories carnivores, omnivores and herbivores. We then looked at the food chain, identifying producers, prey and predators. With this information set in place we began to look at the human diet. We looked at the 5 types of food that we all eat and the importance of each of these foods.

We began our project that we are going to be working on throughout this module. We split into four groups. Each group was given an adult from within the school as their client. As the children learn all about food, digestion and muscle groups they will be putting together a health and fitness plan for their client. In order to understand their clients, each group interviewed their adult to find out what they are currently eating each week and how much exercise they do. This will help the children to put together a personalised plan.

In maths we have begun our learning by looking at representing and partitioning numbers, using base ten and place value counters to help us complete the work. They have answered a range of questions and been asked to present the answers by using a range of pictorial methods.
