Week Beginning 10th July 2023
This week was Science Week, so on Wednesday we carried out some investigations called 'Happy Smells' and 'Confusing Cans'. We looked at how far cans can roll and whether the contents in the can will determine how far they will travel. The large cans travelled further while the smaller cans rolled round in a circle. We used different units of measurement to know how far the cans travelled along the ramp. We also tried to identify different smells and which ones were happy smells for us. We walked around the school to see what smells we could pick up as we walked around. We made some minibeasts of our own as well.
Week Beginning 3rd July 2023
This week we looked at Minibeasts and we had the opportunity of watching caterpillars turn into butterflies . We also released them into the open in our outdoor area. We were so excited to see them fly away . We have been creating our own pictures with our friends as the year is coming to an end. We have so much fun exploring and investigating with dice and other bolts and nuts to make things. We also enjoy doing observational drawings within the classroom. We aim to make as many different minibeasts as we can before the holidays start so watch this space.
Week Beginning 26th June 2023
This week with the weather so warm we wanted to explore the outside a bit more . We spent time looking and plants and minibeasts in our outdoor area and when we got tired we rested in the small house. We got medals also for partaking in sports day, that was cool! We had some parents who came in the morning to read to us. It was nice for them to come and we say thank you!
Week Beginning 19th June 2023
This week we had our Sports Day event in Eastlea. We had so much fun going around and taking part in different events. Can you guess what some of the events were by looking at the photos? We tried our best at observational drawings as well and moved around like sharks in the water. We really enjoy building relationships with our friends as we engaged in different activities.
Week Beginning 12th June 2023
This week we went to Discover in Stratford where we acted as story tellers who went on a misson to Nan Planet to collect words that would help revive the dying planet . We had a lot of fun exploring the planet. We had a go at making our own class rocket and named it 'Double X Gumba Wumba' A strange name indeed. We had so much fun dressing up as bugs as well. During the week, we looked at the places that the snail and whale visited and we painted our own version of the places using a range of media. We sorted and compared the first two places the snail and whale visited and we imagined what the weather was like there as well. We are still working on our postcards and we will publish them when we finish. The weather has been really nice and we have had some interesting adventures in our outdoor area.
Week Beginning 5th June 2023
This is our final term in Reception and we still have so many creative and fun learning to complete. Our focus this term is around "Minibeasts" so our core texts will be taken from stories written by an author called Julia Donaldson. We started our week by looking at 'The Snail and the Whale'. We aim to write a postcard about the places the snail and whale visited. We will be writing it in manageable chunks and trying to use interesting vocabulary.
