Week Beginning 15th May 2023
This week we focussed on writing our story using the text map we created last week.We also made a display of our own vegetable garden. it was really a hands on week. We continue to use our imagination when playing with our friends and using either blocks or the Duplo zoo Lego. See if you can regognise some of our creations. Every opportunity we had we hunted for worms in our outdoor area but we remembered to handle them gently and return them back to their own habitat afterwards.
Week Beginning 9th May 2023
This week we returned back to our core text Oliver's vegetables. We wrote our own story maps for the story as we learnt how to orally rehearse the story. One of our areas of learning is Expressive Arts and Design so we are developing this area. We are now trying to make our own vegetable patch We are also learning how to make ten using our fingers, egg boxes and cubes. We have been learning how to order objects from the smallest to the largest ans well as compare things that are taller than us and what we are taller than. We are constantly developing our gross motor skills outside on the climbing frame. We planted sunflower seeds as part of our Understanding of the World. We will show you how we take care of them as they begin to grow.
Week Beginning 3rd May 2023
This week we focussed our learning on the king's upcoming coronation. We decided to make our own royal carriages for King Charles III. We had fun making crowns and attending a ball dressed up in our fancy clothes. We made time to also work on our numbers by counting the number of different objects and recording it on paper. We wrote a list of things we would buy for a street party and thinking of all the different dishes we could make for the coronation. We also attended a Ball and we came into school dressed like royalty. We had so much fun dancing.
Week Beginning 24th April 2023
This term we are going to be learning about Mother Nature through a text called "Oliver's Vegetables by Vivian French. To introduce the topic we looked at some vegetables and had a discussion about where we thought they came from and what their names were. Then we agreed to make vegetable soup using the vegetables. We all tried to peel and cut the vegetables then the adults cooked them and soup was made. Then we used our sense of taste to see what it taste like. Some of us liked it some said "it was too thick" others said "I don't like it at all it looks funny". One of us said " It tasted better than what I thought" another said " it was really nice and I enjoyed it". We also looked at where these vegetables grow and we did some drawings and writing around this as well. We are always learning about numbers and different ways to represent them. This week in Maths our focus was on the number six. During free flow this week we all wanted to make different type of enclosures for either animals or vehicles, that was really interesting to see.
We also started to think of our own vegetable garden so we began by painting a real life size picture of the main charachter in our story. Each week we will add more to our display board so watch out for our work! Next week we will take a detour and focus on the upcoming coronation. Come back and see what interesting learning and activities we shall be doing.
Week Beginning 17th April 2023
We resumed back to school this week and we kicked off our learning with another religious celebration. Thi time we looked at Eid and we learnt about the way muslims celebrate this festival. We looked at the celebration through the eyes of a girl called Samira. We read about the way she celebrates this time of the year with her family and friends. we also have some mini experts in our class as they also celebrate this festival and some of them were really knowledgeable which was a good way of them showing their Understanding of the World and talking about their own experiences. Again, we invited our parents to come in and make prayer mats with us. This was a hit again!! We made our own mosques out of shapes, we made the star and crescent using a range of materials. we also wrote about Eid in our books. we drew around our hands and made our own Mendhi patterns. We learnt a bit about the phases of the moon and some of us during the week said they spotted a full moon which was very impressive. We enjoyed exploring what happens when we pour water onto wheels. We also love hanging out with our friends and chatting or playing games.
