This week year 5 were lucky to receive an invite to Eastlea secondary school for a taster day so the children could experience a day in the life of a secondary school pupil. we started off by taking part in a science lesson in which we worked in teams to build our own rockets. We also got to see some breath-taking experiments to show how rocket fuel works. During the day we also took part in some P.E workshops as well as drama and computing science. The children were fantastic role models and really showed great enthusiasm in the learning taking place.
This half term in computing we have been looking at the hardware of crumble kits. We have been building chariots that we have coded successfully in order to operate them. The class have really impressed me with the computing skills they have shown during this unit, they faced technical challenges but have really worked hard on their troubleshooting abilities.
This week year 5 were very lucky to receive a visit from young enterprise. They are team of professionals who run a workshop that develop the children's skills in regards to money. They started by looking at the value of money and playing a game that requires the skill of trading. We then worked in groups to develop our our business ideas in the form of a restaurant. The class took a lot away from this workshop and has opened minds to the world of money.
This week we took part in this years sports day. The children were amazing and preserved through the heat and challenges of the day. The children showed great determination and team spirit.
This week years 5 and 6 were lucky enough to have the opportunity to attend the UEL sports dock to take part in a range of different sports activities. They had the chance to take part in professional run sessions in athletics, javelin, skateboarding, skipping, breakdancing and basketball. The children were brilliant and really showed off their skills.
In computing this half term year 5 will be looking at using crumble kits to enhance our coding skills. Crumble is a technology that allows children to use coding to program components for a purpose. Our focus will be around creating our own moveable chariots which will be fully operational once we complete the coding of them. This week we experiement with the hardware and software we will be using.
Today the whole school celebrated Maths day. The day consisted of a range of mathematical activities, games, and challenges. The children really got stuck into the tasks and had a great day. Thank yo to all the parents who attended the parade and workshop.
This week the children were investigating what type of paper would be the best to use at a fair in order to carry food. We experiment with different types such as craft, tissue, wrapping, card, printer paper. We tested the strength of the paper to determine which one could hold the most weight. The children worked great as a team and were shocked at the results they got.
This week the children were very fortunate to take part in a archery workshop as part of their sports learning. The class really had fun and enjoyed this with some of them surprising themselves as to how good they were. They learned how to hold a bow correctly and how to fire an arrow safely.
This week the children were celebrating King Charles III coronation. We mark the occasion by learning about our new king and what his role consists off. We ended the event by having our very own royal ball. The children looked amazing dressed in their party outfits and looked even better with their dance moves.
Many children within the class celebrated Eid last week and this week we marked the celebration with a school assembly in which the children sung a range of songs. Year 5 practiced all week and were really proud of their performance.
In computing this week we have been looking at creating our own websites. We looked at what makes a good website and came up with a design of our own. We discussed what the purpose and who the target audience are. The children came up with some great ideas and we are looking forward to seeing the final products.
Welcome back I hope you have all had a restful break. The children jumped straight back into their learning this week and have worked hard. In English we have been looking at the classic poem 'The Highwayman'. We have been looking at the history of the highwayman and the adventures they took part in. We have been building our own sentences to use in our alternative ending we will be writing next week.
In Maths this week we have been looking at posisition and movement. We have learnt how to plot points on an axis grid aswell as learn how to reflect and translate coordinates. The class worked hard on this and are confident at reading data aswell as describing the movemnt that has taken place.
