Year 4 were fortunate enough to be invited to go and watch the ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ at Stratford theatre. Here is their review of the performance. Deep in the ravening, stench-laden belly of a wolf, Little Red Riding Hood and her friends are plotting their escape, which means evading glittery poos and navigating bits of intestine named after different East London boroughs. Not many shows are set partly inside a hairy predator’s digestive system, but this is panto season – normal rules just don’t apply. And nowhere more than at writer Carl Miller and composer Robert Hyman’s leftfield take on a classic fairy story, which is full of strangeness and imagination. The unique quality of the show made it hilarious, exquisite and a must see show!
Year 4 were invited to visit the London Design and Engineering UTC to take part in a Lego workshop where we looked at environmentally friendly ways of building inclusive smart homes that are accessible for everyone. We worked in small teams with Lego Education pieces to design our smart homes and then used the coding software 'Spike' to program the Hub which powers and instructs the motor. We had some incredible ideas and even better builds. Year 4 had an awesome time and learnt so much and even got to bring three Lego kits back to school with us so that we can continue to develop our engineering skills!
Week beginning 22nd November 2021
This week we had a very exciting computing lesson as we tinkered with some of the schools new coding equiptment (Crumble). For this computing unit we will be using the Crumble equiptment and software to create a robotic orchestra. We explored the Crumble controller, It was quite technical but we were even able to connect a battery pack to power up the Crumble. By the end of our lesson we had all connected the Crumble, battery pack and servo to the Chrome book using our micro USB's and used the Crumble software to enter codes that sent instructions to the servo. We cannot wait for our next lesson where we will construct a project plan for our orchestra!
Week begining 15th November 2021
Parliament Workshop
This week we were extremely fortunate enough to receive a virtual visit from some allies at Parliament. To begin with we discussed what ‘democracy’ meant and how we have a democratic country. We then got to experience a virtual tour of the inside and outside of Parliament. Following that we learnt all about what happens in Parliament. When watching the tour of the inside of Parliament we discussed and identified what the different locations in the Parliament are used for, who’s runs the different sessions and who’s allowed to be in involved in the discussions taken place at Parliament. We finished off the workshop by thinking of new laws we would like to create.

'Discovering' Ourselves!
This is we were lucky enough to recieve yet another visit from the amazing staff at the 'Discover' centre in Stratford. Building on from the previous session; where we dug deep into exploring different emotions. This time we used those emotions to create a story where our central character experienced an emtion. To finish off the session we were given an amazing oppourtunity to create our main characters. We drew our characters onto black card, ensuring we expressed our chosen emotion through the shapes and lines we drew. We then cut it out and pinned it useing push pins which created movement in the lims of out characters. These characters will be displayed in an exhibition at the Discover centre! Head on over there to check out our amazing work!
