On August 15, 2023, the Missouri State Board of Education approved a three-year innovation waiver for 20 public school districts. This initiative aims to develop a more meaningful approach to measuring student learning, demonstrating individual student growth, and influencing future success for all Missouri students. The SRSN network has now grown to 70 school distritcs.
The Show-Me Success Ready Students Network (SRSN) comprises 20 System Design Zone public school districts from across the state. These districts will implement growth-based assessments as an alternative to the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) as the primary state measure of academic achievement. The information gathered from these growth-based assessments will be utilized to design an accountability system that supports students in becoming ready for high school, college, career, and workplace environments.
It's important to note that these districts will continue to administer the MAP test unless and until a federal waiver request is approved by the United States Department of Education. The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the SRSN are collaborating to propose this federal waiver.
This innovative approach represents a significant shift in educational assessment and accountability in Missouri, potentially paving the way for more comprehensive and individualized student evaluation methods.
