At Lordswood Boys' School, Literacy is our number one priority so when we were given the opportunity to use our reading to make a difference to the community and raise some money for charity we were so excited to get stuck in.
Back in December, Year 7 students took part in the Read-A-Thon organised by the charity 'Read for Good' who support children in local hospitals with books and storytellers.
Our students took on the challenge to read for 1000 minutes in a week and fundraise so that children in Birmingham hospital could get new books.
Inayat from Texans was our top fundraiser and raised £20 through completing his challenge to read for 1000 minutes during the week. As a result of his impressive fundraising, the Texans (who also raised the most money as a literacy group) received a brilliant box of books for their new class library and some to take home! The same box was also delivered to the Birmingham Children's hospital.
A huge well done to Inayat! Thank you for showing how our reading skills can change people's lives.
