Ten lucky students were selected out of our Year 9 cohort to attend a praise trip for their excellent standards in school and their behaviour. On Monday 4th December, the Year 9s got to spend the day at the Black Country Radio Studio. Thank you to Mr Mitchell for organising this trip. Below is his account of the day and the students' excellent conduct.
Yesterday I invited 10 year 9 students to record at the Black country radio studio. They joined me to record on my own show and took full control over what they wanted to do for the hour slots.
The show is called Vis-ability which is all about highlighting disabilities both visible and invisible, with myself suffering from Crohns, this show was set up to highlight and talk about things we normally don't want to talk about and highlight.
This show has helped me raise not only awareness, but a lot of money for charity at the moment totalling above £23,000 in just over 2 years.
The boys were tasked to highlight and talk about something that links to the show that may mean something to them or they might like to raise more awareness about. They embodied this showing integrity and respect along the way, which was clear to see and hear.
The boys were so professional and prepared that they were invited to talk about their work not only on my show but live on the breakfast show. (This doesn't even happen for other staff, never mind students or visitors!)
The boys managed to pre-record 2 shows and go live on another show. They were a real credit to the school and I was very proud of what they have achieved. Staff at the radio studio commented several times on how well behaved, polite and professional the students were throughout the day.
Students were asked to write a sentence on their thoughts on the day. Below are some of the highlights, which show how rewarding the experience was for them.
"Fun, new experience, more fun, and enjoyed it, grateful."
"I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity, I'm over the moon."
"I will really cherish this experience forever!"
The shows will be going out live on 27th December, 3rd January, 10th January and 17th January on Black Country Radio Extra 6-7pm for Mr Mitchell's show, as well as BCR Extra Kids on 24th and 31st December at 11am.
A big thank you to Mr Mitchell for organising this trip for the students, and Ms Cociasi for assisting on the day.
