This half term we welcomed BBC's Calum Leslie: Radio and TV Presenter to join us for a journalism workshop!
Our Year 7 students had an incredible and inspiring experience during a special workshop led by Callum from BBC Radio 1. The session kicked off with an engaging Q&A, where students had the opportunity to ask questions and learn all about careers in news, broadcasting, and radio presenting. Callum shared fascinating insights into the world of journalism and what it’s like working behind the scenes and on air at one of the UK’s leading radio stations.
The highlight of the day was a hands-on activity where students got the chance to step into the shoes of a real news presenter. Working in small groups, they planned, wrote, and recorded their very own three-minute news bulletins. This practical experience allowed them to apply what they had learned and showcase their creativity, teamwork, and communication skills. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to build confidence and explore future career possibilities in the media industry.
The excitement and enthusiasm in the room were clear, and many students came away feeling inspired and empowered by the experience.
What a brilliant way for our LBS stars to show off their growing confidence with public speaking! It was fantastic to see so many students stepping up, using their voices, and expressing themselves so clearly and passionately.
A huge thank you to the BBC and to Calum for delivering such an inspiring and interactive workshop.
We’re already looking forward to the next visit and can’t wait to see what exciting opportunities lie ahead!
We love seeing literacy brought to life!
