The following goals identify and briefly describe the purposes of the Logan-Rogersville R-VIII School District Comprehensive Counseling Program. These goals are aligned with the CSIP Goal 1 Student Performance: Maintain an awareness of student academic performance areas of strength, weakness, and areas in need of continuous improvement. Support measures and objectives to ensure continued academic growth at all grade levels and in all content areas.
The counseling program helps develop an understanding of self and others.
The counseling program and personnel provide assistance to all students to insure that:
they become aware of their needs, interests and abilities;
they develop and pursue immediate and long range personal goals; and
they respect the individuality of others.
The counseling program helps students function effectively within groups.
The counseling program and personnel help all students learn to participate productively with others in the school, home and community.
The counseling program serves all students at all educational levels.
The program is designed to meet the needs of all students at all levels: children, youth and adults.
The counseling program assists students in their personal, social, career and educational development.
The Logan-Rogersville R-VIII Comprehensive Counseling Program is not limited to one or two significant areas of student development, but recognizes our responsibility to nurture the whole person. Program goals and activities address all four major developmental areas.
The counseling program provides consultation and coordination services to the teachers, parent, administration and community representatives who work with students.
The counselors, by virtue of their training and their role, serve as resource persons and liaisons between students and those individuals and agencies that play a significant role in their lives.
The counseling program provides developmental as well as preventive and remedial services.
The program and counseling personnel have a developmental focus which maximizes the prevention of problems, a preventive focus which provides for early intervention for the onset of problems, and a remedial emphasis to assist with the solution of problems that have arisen.
The counseling program is both an integral part of and an independent component of the total education program.
The counseling program is a necessary part of the total school program. Many outcomes of the counseling program are supportive of the goals of the total program; counseling services and activities facilitate the efforts of other school personnel in those areas where others have primary responsibility. The counseling program also has identifiable outcomes of its own, for which the counseling personnel have primary responsibility, but in which all personnel share.
The counseling program is continuously refined through systematic planning, designing, implementing and evaluating.
In order to insure that the Logan-Rogersville R-VIII Comprehensive Guidance Program is responsive to our students’ and the community’s needs, careful program development, monitoring, evaluation, and redirection occur on an ongoing basis. The program design includes four direct service components: guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services and system support.
