Number 7

Wilhelm Alfred Chalybaus was born in 1843 and died in 1870. The inscription on this stone ,as several others in the cemetery, is in German . Records indicate that Germans immigrated to this area in the 1830’s, 1850’s and again in the 1880’s.

Obituaries found at the Liverpool village Museum tell of the lives of many who came from Germany to settle in Liverpool:

Peter Duerr lived in Liverpool for 79 years. He was one of the first willow basket manufacturers, and pioneered in the manufacture of willow furniture

Mrs. Maria Richberg , nee Maucer, came to this country in 1853. She left the “Fatherland” on a sailing vessel on March 23, 1853 and arrived on July 13th of the same year, having spent seventy-three days on the water.

Mrs. Anna Richard Nenzle came to this country in 1870. On the ship she meet Henry Nenzle, another German immigrant, and after their arrival in America they married. In Liverpool Mr. Nenzle became a basket maker. Mrs. Nenzle helped him, weaving the bottoms of the baskets. Basket making in Liverpool was often a family operation, with many phases of manufacture divided among family members.
