Samuel Blackman died in 1857 at age 96. He enlisted for the war in Stratford, Ct in 1778 and was discharged in 1780. He enlisted again for 3 more years. His wife, Jerusha who died in 1860 at age 89 has an interesting epitaph:
"When her weak hand grew palised and her eye dim with the mist of years then it was her time to die.”

Biographical Sketch: Samuel Blackman was born in 1761 and he fought in the American Revolution. Blackman was about 24 years old when George Washington becomes the first president. Also, at about the age of 31, the NY Stock Exchange opened in New York City. One of the last things that happened in Samuel Blackmans life was the Erie Canal opening. After Blackman died (approximately 4 years after) the Civil War began.
