Maria Brown and Alexander Brown

Biographical Sketch

Maria Brown was born in 1822 and passed away on August 16,1832. She died at the age of 10. Her brother, Alexander Brown was born in 1820 and passed away in 1832. He died at the age of 12. On April of 1825, Syracuse became apart of Salina, it had a population of 500. In 1828 the Oswego Canal opened. It offered straight access to Lake Ontario, it also helped with international shipping. Then, in 1832 the cholera epidemic outburst occured. It caused about 100 deaths in Syracuse and Salina. In October 1831 the first state railroad convention was held in the hotel, the Syracuse House. Then, in 1832 Baron Schilling von Canstedt created an electromagnetic telegraph.
