John Hicks


Biographical Sketch

Johnathan P. Hicks was born in Providence, New York and later lived in Liverpool NY. He was born in 1791 and passed away in 1866. He was active in business and village affairs. He owned a store with Harvey Hawley at the corner of First and Sycamore Streets. During his life, Harvey Hawley started his long sleigh ride over Onondaga lake and the ice covered him. One month later he was found dead. Also, when Johnathan was twelve years old, Thomas Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase doubling the size of the United States. In 1830, Johnathan Hicks was elected village treasurer, and in 1845 he was appointed to the first Liverpool Board of Health.
