John Akin was born in 1800 and died in 1875. His monument is made of zinc , although the material was the referred to as white bronze .

These types of monuments were popular from the mid 1870's to World war 1. The peak of slaves was between 1888- 1892. Salesmen recommended them on the basis of their durability , the cheapness compared to the granite and the fact that they were an example of progress since they were man- made.

There is a larger white bronze monument in the Morgan Road Cemetery it is the Cooper Family monument and the base of the monument is in grave Monumental bronze Co. Bridgeport, CT. it can be seen from the Wetzel road side of the cemetery right next to the stairs leading into the cemetery.

According to the Syracuse city directory, 1875- 1887 there were two salesman of white bronze monuments in the Syracuse area- Mr. Wilson and Mr. Blye. both are buried in the Oakwood Cemetery.
