YEAR 1

In Year 1, through fun songs and games, children experience a sense of pulse in music, learning to find and keep a steady beat, as at the same time they begin to explore rhythm.  They sing simple songs with a small range, learning how to control and match pitch as they respond to visual directions and counting in (‘1, 2, 3, 4’). 

They learn to recognise the sound of classroom instruments and play them with a feeling for dynamics and tempo – and later in the year, they use the instruments to create soundscapes and respond musically to stories.

Throughout the year, we dance and move to music, learning how to listen with a keen ear and how to work with each other with energy and awareness.
