Reception has a music session every week in the music room. We focus on songs and games to help children gain a physical experience of music (see below, for examples). They learn to listen and respond to recorded music of various styles, exploring dynamics and tempo through music and movement. Some of the lessons are themed around classroom subjects eg. Africa, Spring and People Who Help Us.
One of the highlights of the year is a project with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, with which the school has a long association. In the Spring term, two members of the orchestra come to work with the children and introduce the project and then, later on, a school trip is arranged to see the whole orchestra perform (see below).
