I am back for my second year as a classroom transition teacher. I have also been a classroom TA for three years in the Lake Forest High School Transition program. I have held many roles that will benefit all of our students as they move forward in their educational careers. In addition to my work in the classroom, I am a varsity wrestling coach, JV girls soccer, JV boys soccer coach, and Special Olympics head coach at Lake Forest. I received my bachelor's degree from The University of Iowa and completed my MAT from National Louis University.
Karen Lapinski
School Psychologist
I am fortunate to be in my seventh year working as part of the Transition Program. I help the team to create program-wide social, emotional, and behavioral supports as well as to problem-solve individual concerns. I support students in achieving their social/emotional learning goals, with an emphasis on interactions within group and real-life situations. I am also typically involved when students need more formal types of assessment. When I am not at work I enjoy travel, cooking, and trying new restaurants.

I love working at the Lake Forest Transition Program. The students and staff are the best! I am currently a one-to-one aide for a student from District 113. One of my favorite things to do at Transition is teaching students new recipes and how to make healthy food choices. I am married with two children, ages 18 and 27. When not at work I enjoy cooking, thrifting, and spending time with family.

I grew up in the area and attended high school in Grayslake. I knew from then that I wanted to be a teacher somewhere in Lake County. I attended Carthage College in Kenosha where I studied History and Secondary Education. While student teaching, I learned that I enjoyed my Special Education classes more. Wanting to pursue Special Education further, I found my way to the Lake Forest Transition Program.
