Overview
This experiential-learning career development is designed as a classroom activity to emphasize the importance of agriculture in our state, region, and community. Learning activities will focus on: agricultural literacy, career exploration, personal development, and integration of academics. Participation in this activity is also designed to fulfill the SAE component of middle school FFA membership.
District and State

Rules
Participants must be middle school FFA members grades seven and eight.
A team will consist of four to six students.
The topics for the event will be:
2021 - The importance of agricultural industry in our region (similar to FFA District)
2022 - The importance of agricultural industry in our county
2023 - The importance of agricultural industry in Iowa
Each team will prepare a typed, four page research paper outlining the teams plans to address the topic for the year.
Title page must include:
Title
Chapter Name
Team Members
Four pages (not including title page).
Double spaced.
Ten or twelve pt font.
One inch minimum page margins.
One or two page bibliography attached to the back of four page proposal.
At registration, each team will present one manila envelope that contains three printed copies of the research paper with attached bibliography.
Each team member will take an active role during the live presentation. Points will be awarded to teams that share responsibility in the presentation.
Each team will deliver a 10 to 12 minute presentation outlining why agriculture industry is important in the given topic area.
Teams should utilize visual materials that will enhance their presentation.
Time cards will be shown at:
10 minutes/ 2 minutes remaining
11 minutes/ 1 minute remaining
The presentation will conclude at 12 minutes. The room chairperson will call "time" at the end of the 12 minutes. The team presentation must stop when "time" is called.
At the concludsion of the presentation, members should prepare to receive and answer questions from the judges for five minutes.
Judges are expected to direct and participants are expected to answer a minimum of one question per team about their written or live presentation. Members may aid or assist a team member after the initial answer has been given.
FFA Chapters may enter multiple teams at the district level.
At District level it is permissible to deliver the written materials to registration the day of the event. Written materials will be returned following the District event. Materials for the advancing teams may be revised.
Written materials of advancing chapter must be postmarked to the FFA Enrichment Center seven business days following the District event.
The judges in each District shall designate the top two teams to compete in the State event. The judges shall also name an alternate.
The judges at the state level shall designate the top three teams.
