British Values are a set of values that the government has identified as things we need to actively promote so that everyone can be prepared to live life positively within modern Britain.
The British Values are:
Democracy - Democracy means having the right to have your voice heard in a culture based on freedom and equality.
Rule of Law - This means that there are rules that help build a safe, secure and happy environment to live and work in.
Individual liberty - This is the protection of everyone’s rights and freedoms in British society.
Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs, and for those without faith - This refers to the understanding that everyone has different beliefs and values, and respecting their right to them.
Great Britain (GB) is the island made up of Scotland, England and Wales.
The United Kingdom (UK) is formed of Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The UK is in Europe but is not part of the European Union (EU).
The Republic of Ireland (RoI) is NOT part of the UK or GB.

Lots of people think about this differently, so there is no right answer! You might have been born here, or your family might have historically always lived here, or you could have been born somewhere else and come to feel like the UK is home. Either way, the British Values are there to keep you safe and happy whilst you live in Britain.
