A young carer is someone aged under the age of 18 who cares for a family member or friend who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, cannot cope without their support.
A young adult carer is someone aged 18-25
We will will refer to students of both age groups as ‘Young Carers’ and most of the support available will cover both age ranges, unless we specify otherwise.
At college, we recognise that caring might have an impact on your studies, and want to support you to achieve your full potential.
Every department will have a young carers champion, who has been trained to understand the needs of young carers
Your department young carer champion is someone you can speak to about being a carer, and you can discuss any support that you require from college
This is a list of the Young Carer Champions for every department.
