Workshop Description: Transform your next science unit so that students are *figuring something out* like real scientists rather than just covering a topic. The anchoring phenomenon routine is a vehicle for increasing student engagement in order to support mastery of science content. We will experience an anchor from the student and teacher perspective, with a focus on the driving question board, so be prepared to be an active participant. Workshop Description: This course explores AI's practical applications in educational settings. Participants will develop essential prompt writing skills tailored to leverage AI technology effectively within the classroom environment. Additionally, the course delves into critical discussions surrounding the potential pitfalls and ethical considerations inherent in the integration of AI in education. Workshop Description: This workshop will focus on various strategies and tools that support English Language Learners. We will explore the 5 stages of language acquisition and various supports for each stage one can use, both digitally and non-digital. We will develop products within the course to support not only EL students, but all students within your classroom. Many strategies and tools that support English Language Learners are also great supports for all of our learners.
This course will meet asynchronously and I will be available for support via email or live Google Meet if needed. This course satisfies the 15 PDP requirement in ELL/SEI for recertification.

Workshop Description: Reading comprehension is only as strong as a reader’s listening and language comprehension. Our conversations with students are an investment in the same spoken language that enables their later reading comprehension of written text. In this workshop, we will explore teaching shifts to support oral language development, knowledge building and reading comprehension. We will discuss how to develop and implement more intentional questioning during read alouds and discover ways to examine vocabulary with your students. We will also explore questioning habits for your day to day conversations with students to improve comprehension and language development. This workshop was created with early elementary teachers in mind, but could be helpful, adapted and applied to all elementary teachers and classrooms.

Workshop Description: This workshop will unpack the Universal Design for Learning Guidelines from a blended learning approach. We will explore the various models of blended learning and how to make these models work for all learners. Suggested (but not required) reading: UDL and Blended Learning: Thriving in Flexible Learning Landscapes. Workshop Description: Have you been hearing about the Science of Reading? Are you considering how to weave the SoR research into your classroom practices? Whether the term SoR is new to you or you have begun your SoR learning journey, the book Shifting the Balance: 6 Ways to Bring The Science of Reading Into The Balanced Literacy Classroom is a great tool to bring current research to your teaching, without starting over! Join presenter Nancy Boudreau for a study of this well organized, easy to read book. Find out how to make “shifts” to your current practices and strengthen your reading instruction. Nancy can speak to the powerful results she observed after making subtle changes to her literacy lessons and practices. This book study will get you thinking, push you out of your comfort zone and inspire you as a teacher of reading!
To earn the 15 PDPs for this workshop, participants will complete short written reflections after each of the 6 chapters and attend 4 virtual meetings (One hour each, via Google Meet). Workshop participants are expected to purchase the book, Shifting the Balance: 6 Ways to Bring The Science of Reading Into The Balanced Literacy Classroom by Jan Burkins and Kari Yates, on their own and read the introduction prior to the first meeting. The book study will run for 8 weeks total. Class material and information will be sent to participants on 10/9, prior to our first meeting. Meetings will take place on Wednesdays: 10/18, 11/1, 11/15 and 11/25 at 3:45-4:45pm, with all written response work due no later than 12/2/23.
