Let’s face it. Most learners do not learn a topic unless they are involved and engaged with the topic. Many teachers have presentations in their back pocket that they have used in the past. They click through the slide presentation and students consume the information that is being shared. With the help of a free web tool called PearDeck, students have the ability to actively interact in the slide presentation. As the teacher goes through the slides, students see those slides on their own device and in some cases are asked to interact with the slide. For example, answer a question based on the topic. Or maybe choose what they think the right answer might be from a multiple choice question. As a result, the teacher is able to see in real time if students are grasping the material through those different polls and questions. Student feedback can be shared immediately to the rest of the class which helps enhance and direct the class conversation. In the time of remote learning, a teacher can turn their Pear Deck presentations into student paced mode. This feature allows students to interact with the content, at their own pace. It can be challenging knowing what students are able to understand during remote learning, but this tool can help assess students formatively.
During this hands-on workshop, participants will experience PearDeck as student as well as a teacher. Participants will be asked to create an interactive PearDeck presentation and use the skills acquired from the training. (PearDeck has both a free and paid version - we will be focusing on the free version). Bring laptop/chromebook with the latest Chrome browser so you can apply the skills learned!

For some mathematics teachers, making the shift from using Microsoft Word to Google Docs has been a challenge due to the nature of the content. It is not as easy to create math equations and graphs. However, with the help of a tool called equatIO, teachers are able to use proper math notation for functions and equations when creating content in the Google World - Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets. Teachers also have the ability to create graphs right from equatIO. For those teachers who are looking for a tool to help streamline the process of creating math content to share with students, this workshop is for you.
During this hands-on workshop, participants will have an opportunity to create with equatIO and learn how easy it is to move digitally with their mathematics. Participants will be asked to produce digital artifact that could be use in their curriculum with equatIO. NOTE: Bring laptop/chromebook with the latest Chrome browser so you can apply the skills learned! Participants must have the ability to download the equatIO chrome extension in order to participate in this workshop. (Presenter will help assist with getting equatIO)
