What is mindfulness and why should it be an important part of both a teacher’s and student’s day? We will delve into these questions and so much more during this 8 hour online, self paced workshop. Research is showing that mindfulness practice can inspire empathy, kindness and gratitude in our students as well as help them better attend to lessons during the day, regulate emotions and become more self-aware. We will explore how teaching mindfulness will complement and support the social emotional learning programs you are already teaching. Participants will leave with an understanding of mindfulness, mindful routines/scripts to use in their classrooms, SEL activities (for the topics previously mentioned) and resources to explore the topic further. Seven hours of the workshop are self paced and the final hour is a live meet with the instructor at the END of the course. Participants will be responsible for answering short reflection questions throughout the self paced portion of the class to receive 8 PDPs.

Description:
Every day, we chase the very best of an unwritten curriculum: contributing to developing the whole child by creating opportunities for those intangible experiences that transform our classrooms and schools into communities. This workshop will showcase strategies and programs that teachers can implement in their classrooms, advisories, or co-curricular programming and provide a forum for educators to share their strategies and think through some new ideas together as we return to the "new normal" and welcome our students back to our classrooms.
