Food Basics is an exciting introduction to cooking and baking! It is the only prerequisite to all the other Foods courses and because of this, has more theory on safety, nutrition, as well as cooking techniques.
Open-Book, Online Quizzes 1 - 4 are theory. These four quizzes are auto-graded and you must earn 50% or greater on each to have the next quiz released and available to you. You are permitted two attempts at each of these open-book, auto graded quizzes. Use multiple windows and look up the answers as you work through each quiz. It is important that you know these basic concepts before you begin to the Cooking Labs.

Assignment 1 is a Recipe Nutritional Analysis. You must complete Cooking Lab # 2 Vegetables and Fruit before you can begin this Nutrition Assignment.
Cooking Labs are hands-on cooking and baking activities. You must achieve 50% in each of the Cooking Labs to pass this course. There are five cooking labs, and you must complete Cooking Lab #1 before the next four Cooking Lab dropboxes will be released.

Cooking Lab 1- Muffins
Cooking Lab 2- Vegetables and Fruit (Required Lab)
Cooking Lab 3- Milk and Alternatives
Cooking Lab 4- Meat and Alternatives
Cooking Lab 5- Grain Products
In Food Basics, you must complete all labs and assignments.
In order to earn credit for this course, you must earn 50% or greater on each assessment.
Food Basics has no final exam.
To begin the course, go to the menu bar above and select Home and start with Topic 2 Safety and Sanitation. Review all the topics before you begin, as this will familiarize you with where all the content is located and help when you do the Nutrition Analysis Assignment.
There are videos for much of the material. Be sure to watch them. They are very short and will help you immensely with the course material.
