WIDA Screener
South Carolina has been a member of the WIDA Consortium since 2014 and has access to a suite of ELP assessments to determine ML status. Each tool is designed to assist in identifying students who may benefit from language services.
LCSD uses the following screeners:
• WIDA Screener for Kindergarten,
• WIDA Screener
All WIDA ELP assessments, including screeners, are considered secure testing materials and should be stored and handled accordingly.
Students in the first semester of a new grade-level cluster will take the previous year’s screener. For example, a student enrolling in sixth grade, a new grade-level cluster, in the first semester will take the fifth-grade WIDA Screener or WIDA MODEL instead of the sixth-grade form. Grade-level clusters include 1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

WIDA Screener for Kindergarten or WIDA Screener
Students who enroll after the ACCESS for ELLs testing window and are screened for services do not need to be rescreened again at the start of the new school year. Scores from the screening will be applicable since they are within one calendar year.
WIDA Screener for Kindergarten or WIDA Screener
Students taking the WIDA screener in the 1st semester of Kindergarten who may meet exit criteria will be monitored for 4 consecutive years.
Students taking the WIDA screener in the 2nd semester-12th grade who meet the exit criteria do not qualify for MLP services and will be coded 8FRMEL.
Students taking the WIDA screener who may have an MLP service gap of an academic year or more are required to take the screener but will not exit the program even if he/she meets the exit criteria. This is because an ML may only exit the program when taking a summative assessment - Initial WIDA Screener or ACCESS test. The student WIDA screener scores will be used to identify the MLs' current language needs.
After you administer WIDA Screener for Kindergarten, enter the student’s scores below to generate a report of the student’s test performance. The score report will show performance in terms of the WIDA English language proficiency levels.
For the all-online WIDA Screener, MLPS must score the speaking and writing sections of the screener on the DRC Portal. The score report will be available after 24hr from the day the speaking and writing sections have been scored.
Once MLPS has a WIDA Screener Score Report, he/she must upload it to their assigned school's Google Drive folder, which can be found in the MLPS Google Drive folder.
The WIDA Screener documents below are restricted to LCSD WIDA MLPS Test Administrators.
