Multilingual Learner Services at the School Level
- IMPORTANT -
ML Program services are not intervention or support services; they are direct instructional services for MLs, also considered part of their Tier I instruction and supplemental to the general curriculum. Therefore, ML Program services and accommodations should be treated with the same importance as any other core instruction.
ML Program Specialist/ML Teacher must not be pulled from ML Program Services (class/co-teaching/small group pull-out and push-in/consultative/planning) to cover general ed classes due to the absence of a classroom teacher, grade level planning, or meetings and PDs, etc. outside the ML Program Services' scope.

TALKING POINTS - COMMUNICATING WITH ML FAMILIES
Communicating with multilingual parents who are not proficient in English can be challenging. Talking Points is a resource to help the MLPS, classroom teachers, staff, and administrators connect with families in a language they understand. It translates all texts into parents' preferred language and their responses into English.
FREE Version Options:
Teachers can enter their students' contact info and parents' preferred language for daily communication and share newsletters, school docs, photos, and videos, etc.
Administrators may send an email to teachers to forward to their class parents, such as school events, test schedules, holidays, school closing, early dismissal, etc. This ensures that ALL parents receive and understand the information shared, which strengthens home-school communication and attends to compliance requirements for communicating with families in a language they can understand.
Teachers may share their class with the school nurse to facilitate communication for early pickup or non-urgent medical needs.
Schools using TalkingPts have shared a significant improvement in parent communication/participation.
