This term the Reception children have been on a journey around the world exploring different habitats and the animals we find there. We started in the Jungle where it can be very hot and wet! We found monkeys, tigers and snakes.
Then we travelled to the Arctic where it was really cold and there was lots of ice. The children wrapped up warm and found polar bears, snowy owls and lots of snow. The children wrote a postcard about their trip to say how much fun they had and what they saw.
Next we journey under water to discover what life lives under the ocean. We read Commotion in the Ocean and discovered jellyfish, sharks and swordfish. We drew posters of our favourite sea creatures. Jacques Costeau is a famous deep sea diver who pioneered underwater videography and paved the way to allow us to watch amazing videos of life under the sea.
Next we explored minibeasts and went on hunts in our garden to find them. The children learned how we need to help bees and butterfly populations by planting more flowers, not littering and not touching them. The children learned the Butterfly Life Cycle through the story of A Very Hungry Caterpillar and had a go at retelling the stories themselves.
We finished the term with a visit from Exotic Explorers who brought us some animals to see and touch. We saw a snake and a giant millipede which live in the Jungle. We met a Chinchilla that lives in very cold environments and a fire salamander that needs to keep its skin wet. We also met some continental giant rabbits who took up residence in the dolls house!
