Principal's Welcome

Dear Parents and Carers,

How quickly is this year passing?  I write again approaching our Easter Holidays after a fun filled day of Easter Bonnet parades, Easter performances and our very special ‘LAD’s got talent’.  It is with such delight that our children share their talents in every style possible and WOW, what talent they have!  It is an absolute pleasure to share these moments with our children.

This term has seen much activity including our first ever trip outside of the UK!  A group of Year 6 children arrived bleary eyed (staff too!) at 6am to head towards the Battlefields of Belgium.  Our children paid their respects in the war graves and walked in WW1 trenches - literally following in the footsteps of troops in times gone by.  All of the children had a brilliant day and it brought the learning to life from their recent PYP inquiry into WW2.  The conduct and respect our children had, made a significant impression on the Tour leader and he commends the maturity of our children.  This unit of inquiry ended with our children attending the war memorial and reading their poems to show respect and the deep historic connections between what we learn today and the past.  

I am excited to share that our children are having global impact - literally changing the world!  We are working with ‘Lend with Care’ a microloan charity that helps support entrepreneurs around the world to set up, run a micro business that has a positive impact on their community.  Money raised from our Enterprise fair, is now supporting small businesses in Paraguay, Cambodia and the Philippines.  The charity works by providing the micro loan to the entrepreneur and they pay it back, we then choose another micro business to support around the world - constantly paying it forward and changing the lives of others all over the world.  Our children - making the world a better place!  

As you will read further down, these are just two of the incredible actions taking place here at Leigh Academy Dartford, and I hope you join me in sharing pride at the work undertaken by our children and the staff.
