KS3
Years 7, 8 & 9 have been building on and developing a strong understanding of the history of art during this module: developing their knowledge and understanding of where art sits within a historical context and the cultural values of each period.
Students have also developed their skills through the exploration of colour pencil, paint, tone, mark-making, monoprinting, Lino printing and Photography! Please see below for lots of examples of some of the great work produced!
Yr 7
In M1, Year 7 have studied Prehistoric art: how communication through the arts pre-dates any written record and how we have, perhaps, evolved to create art!
Year 7 were looking closely at mark-making in M1; below are some brilliant, dynamic examples:
Drawing each other on acetate, using one line only!
During M2, year 7 have been practicing and experimenting with experiential and experimental drawing techniques, such as ‘blind’ drawing.
“Blind”and continuous line drawing of their own shoes
Upside down drawing!
Year 8
In M1, year 8 developed an understanding of the Baroque art period and made connections between original Baroque paintings and contemporary photographic practice; ultimately questioning the representation present in classic works.
Their photographic responses to the Baroque movement are both intense and beautiful.
In M2, we are building important skills in painting and oil pastel whilst analysing the work of Tamara de Lempicka and her role in shaping the representation of women during the Art Deco movement.
Year 9 Renaissance
Year 9 have been unpicking the Renaissance throughout M1 & M2 ; discussions around humanism and how individualism is evident in the visual language employed by Renaissance painters filled the classrooms during Module 1. Studies of works by Sandro Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci informed exciting anatomical monoprints.
During M2, we have been asking students to make connections between the Italian Renaissance and The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. Important themes around Black History and representation are discussed and Y9 are currently responding through Lino printing!
Year 10 Artist Workshop
Living in London, one of the global capitals of the Creative Industries, our city is brimming with world class Artists, Designers, Architects and Makers. We were delighted to offer our Year 10 students a fantastic opportunity to partake in a range of workshops led by experts in the creative industry, where they experimented with Screen Printing, the Darkroom and Ceramics.
Year 10 Arts Enrichment Programme
The Arts Enrichment Programme (Year 10) started in M1. We are exploring site-specific work, contemporary art and ecology.
So far we have experimented with plaster, land art, collage and sculpture!
The programme complements the GCSE framework, so that the work students make can be submitted alongside their Component 1 Portfolio for GCSE Fine Art. We are working alongside Goldsmiths Centre of Contemporary Arts and Ms Henri Crook supports the delivery of the programme.
Key Stage 3 Art Club
Christmas card competition- “Add Christmas” to a famous artwork
In M1 our very own Ms Wilson showed her work as a part of the London Design Festival.
Inktober
Inktober is a month-long art challenge created by artist Jake Parker that is focused on improving skill and developing positive drawing habits. Every day for the month of October anyone participating in the Inktober challenge creates an ink drawing.
Some FANTASTIC entries for Inktober this year! Such thoughtful, imaginative and playful entries from both staff and students. Thank you to everyone who submitted; I really hope you enjoyed the process.
