LAB Student Government
In September we held elections for this year's Student Government. Each tutor group was tasked with electing two representatives from their class based upon the strength of their election campaigns. We had some really excellent campaigns with students finding engaging and inventive ways to promote their ideas. Once elected, our Student Government representatives met for the first time to discuss their roles and responsibilities. We also asked for applications for the roles of Chairperson, Secretary and Finance Officer. Kahinde (Kenny) in Year 10 was selected following an excellent application to be Chair; Lexie in Year 9 put forward an extremely convincing application and was selected as Secretary and Emmanuelle convinced the panel that he would be an excellent Finance Officer. Well done to everyone who was successful in their campaign for Student Government as well as to those who applied for the above roles!

Current focus:
The Student Government is currently focusing on promoting attendance at co-curricular clubs with their tutor groups, as well as undertaking Student Voice on what clubs they would like to see in the future. We have a huge array of clubs on offer this year and want to make sure that students know about them and are encouraged to attend! Another major responsibility they have is in planning and implementing each College’s Christmas charity appeals.
Students attended our second meeting on 17th November ready with ideas about Christmas charities as well as feedback from their tutor group about what clubs they would like to attend in the future.
Sancho will support the Greenwich Foodbank this year. They will be collecting a range of long life food items from tins of vegetables, beans and fruit to dried pasta, rice and cereals.
Fawcett will support Cancer Research UK. Student Government representatives are working with a local branch of the charity to both raise money and collect items in the run up to Christmas.
Airy are raising money for The British Red Cross this Christmas, with a range of exciting activities planned: such as bake sales, guess the sweets in the jar and many more. They will be continuing to support the charity throughout the year. Look out for more information on how you can get involved in upcoming newsletters and emails.
